Be honest. Do I look okay…for my age?

Looking in the mirror, I think I’m fine. Then someone comments about another (usually younger) woman: “Hey, she looks great…for her age.”

Recently, a man and I had been emailing about a political campaign. Then one day we actually met. Though I didn’t mention this to him, he’s ten years older and six inches shorter than I am. He’s also bald as a bowling ball. But the first words out of his mouth were, “Hey, I bet you used to be a real knockout!”

Come on, tell us how you look…for your age.

  1. I like Barb’s poem. that pretty well describes how I feel about my body. I have several corrections I would like to make but like Shirley, that takes a lot of money. I can find better ways of using my money.

  2. My sister Nell and I spent three weeks traveling together (24/7) and decided that we looked much better in clothing. I think that todays young women are showing too much of their bodies. Leave something to the viewers imagination.

  3. Age appropriate clothing depends on your size, your lifestyle, the occassion, and, probably your income.
No, I don’t look as good as I did at 30. I only wish I had known that at 30 – that it wouldn’t last forever
I have had re-construction surgery for cancer. Who knows what I would do if I had the $$$$.

  4. Vanity? or respect for esthetic sensitivity in others. I didn’t show my body when it was good. Sure not gonna expose any more than I have to now that it’s not

  5. Looking in the Mirror at 75

If I look at my front, I’m passable.
Sideways I’m shaped like a pear.
In bright light I’m somewhat irascible.
As for closeups, I never go there.

But I still see my little girl face,
if I squint and and then take a peek.
And I know my heart’s in the right place,
    — that’s all the self image I seek.

  6. Wearing long-sleeved shirts in 95 degree weather isn’t modesty–it’s vanity. What if the rest of my body matches my 68-year old face? That would be okay–even natural–wouldn’t it?

  7. In winter, all I see of myself is my face, and I guess I’m just used to the way that looks. But trading jeans for shorts or a skirt, yikes, that’s always a shock. And short sleeved shirts are worse. Seems like I always vow to stay covered up, regardless of the heat. That vow isn’t kept. In fact, it’s forgotten as soon as I start doing something.
